THE CAMP

It's a long-weekend of wild-camping in our 7 acre field in Edenbridge - with all the beauty and all the hazards of the great outdoors. We invite people we've known for years and some we've only just met - all ages and from all walks of life and about 100 or so usually come.

We brave the outdoors together for 2/3 days. We share in the chores and share in the fun. All kinds of activities spring up based on ideas that people bring and in the evening we gather to share food and sing round the camp fire.

Its restful too - nobody is forced to join in with anything, so you can find a quiet shade under an oak tree to read - or walk for miles in open and beautiful countryside.

The Camping Field

The camping field is a 7 acre pasture overlooking the Eden Valley. We mow plots where tents or groups of tents can be pitched.

Because its not a permanent campsite, the facilities are basic - a piped water-supply, washing up bench, portaloos, and a 'tree-shower'.

In the middle of the field there's a small marquee where we gather each morning to chat about the day and come up with ideas together.

What to Bring

Camping Stuff: Do your best to come fully equipped - something to sleep in, cook on and sit on, something to keep your milk cool. Invest in some good tent pegs too, if it blows a hooly, you'll be glad you did.

Food & Drink: We do our best to eat together in the evenings but its good to have your own food for lunch & breakfast and plenty of drinking-water. You can easily shop locally, there are 3 supermarkets in Edenbridge and a great butchers.

First Aid: You'll need to be responsible for your own first aid so please bring a decent kit with you - including cream for stings & insect bites.

When To Arrive

Come on Thursday if you're up for mucking in and helping set up. This is often one of the most fun days - it also guarantees you'll get a better choice of pitch for your tent! We end the day with a well-earned beer and a burger round the camp fire.

But Friday is when most campers arrive, setting up their tents and getting their bearings. By Saturday it's getting busier and if the weather's good we usually have a big barbecue together by the camp fire and a talent contest (brilliantly) organised by the children.

Sunday is a day to relax. We pack up the main elements of the camp in the afternoon. If you're able to help with that, you're welcome to stay Sunday night too.
